DeFRAG and the Delta Tau Delta fraternity are organizing an all-day video game competition on April 1st to support the people of Haiti. Your organization can join the fun and help do something really meaningful for the people of Haiti.
The competition will be broadcast live over the Internet from the 9th floor of the CDM building. We are calling it “Gaming for Haiti”. Student organizations will sign up for a time slot during the broadcast and challenge another student organization to a competition of their choosing. DeFRAG has an extensive list of games to choose from but we encourage organizations to choose whatever game they would like (and we’re not limited to just video games!). The clubs will send a team of players to represent their club. But that’s not the fun part…
We will have a dedicated website that will accept donations in real-time made over PayPal or club members can join the fun and donate in person at CDM and at other locations receiving the broadcast at the Lincoln Park Student Center and the DePaul Center in the loop campus. Games are going to have a comical disadvantage, i.e. one arm tied behind your back, thumb taped to the controller, or some other outrageous handicap. As the players compete the donations will determine which team will have to play with the handicap. As one club’s donations overtake the other team’s donations, the handicap will shift to the team with the lower donations. Every few minutes the game will stop and the total donations for each team will be tallied and the handicap will pass from team to team. Players are encouraged to appeal (beg) for donations from the audience to avoid the handicap. The idea is not about serious gaming; it’s about having fun and raising money for the devastated country of Haiti.
On top of that, we will have a celebrity show-down with popular deans and professors. You can see your favorite (or otherwise) faculty have hilarious disadvantages while playing your favorite game!
There is so much more to this and we’d love to have other student organizations’ support for this cause!
