<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Welcome to another week of The <strong><a href="http://defrag.depaul.edu/podcast">DeFrag Afterparty</a>!</strong><br />

<p>This week we have great news out of Kickstarter starting with the first gameplay trailer of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9hQWqtxXPU" target="_blank">Wasteland 2</a>; for those of you you remember the <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2" target="_blank">very successful kickstarter</a>.<br />
Following this, <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/redthread/dreamfall-chapters-the-longest-journey" target="_blank">Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey</a> has joined the realm of games on kickstarter with an ambitious goal of $850,000. But fear not, they&#8217;ve already surpassed $550,000. Only having been up for a few days, that&#8217;s impressive! So donate now!</p>
<p>In other not-so-great-news, Gamestop isn&#8217;t very happy with the possible new concept of <a href="http://www.edge-online.com/news/gamestop-issues-warning-on-next-xbox-second-hand-block/" target="_blank">&#8220;no used games&#8221;</a> approach taken by the next gen console market, Microsoft is retiring its <a href="http://www.shacknews.com/article/77672/microsoft-xna-to-be-retired-casting-doubt-on-xbox-live" target="_blank">XNA game dev program</a>, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick talks the <a href="http://www.develop-online.net/news/43214/Kotick-Rising-next-gen-dev-costs-inevitable" target="_blank">cost of next gen development</a>, and Epic Games has closed the doors on <a href="http://epicgames.com/community/2013/02/a-message-from-tim-sweeney/" target="_blank">Impossible Studios</a> which only formed last August.</p>
<p>But we finish up with better/crazy news, as DICE brings us Gabe Newell and J.J. Abrams talking about <a href="http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/newell-valve-looking-to-make-portal-or-half-life-move-with-j-j/" target="_blank">a Half-Life/Portal movie</a> possibility, and Obsidian <a href="http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/02/08/new-republic-obsidian-actively-pitching-more-star-wars/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+RockPaperShotgun+%28Rock%2C+Paper%2C+Shotgun%29" target="_blank">wants to do Star Wars again</a>!<br />
So do we Obsidian, so do we&#8230;</p>
<p>And to finish things up, head over to our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/2201831174/" target="_blank">Facebook Group</a> and vote to choose from a list of terrible videogame movies for our movie night!</p>
<p>P.S.<br />
To get the Dreamfall goodness in its whole, check it out at <a href="http://www.gog.com/gamecard/the_longest_journey" target="_blank">GOG.com</a> where you can buy the original, or the two together. Would strongly suggest it. Also for <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/sub/320/" target="_blank">Steam people</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Welcome to another week of The <strong><a href="http://defrag.depaul.edu/podcast">DeFrag Afterparty</a>!</strong><br />
Where we say things that make sense in our heads but seldom anywhere else!</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><object width="500" height="27" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="src" value="http://defrag.depaul.edu/audio-player.swf" /><param name="quality" value="best" /><param name="flashvars" value="audioUrl=../podfiles/p56.mp3" /><embed width="500" height="27" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://defrag.depaul.edu/audio-player.swf" quality="best" flashvars="audioUrl=../podfiles/p56.mp3" /></object></p>
<p>This week DLC is back in the mix but with a twist! How do you feel about paying for cheat codes? It&#8217;s already a thing, but it&#8217;s about to become main stream. Pending for comment from hipster gamers&#8230;</p>
<p>But before that, Playstation is tempting us with <a href="https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/" target="_blank">news from beyond</a> slated to happen on the 20th: what could it be?!, Grand Theft Auto has been <a href="http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/48591/grand-theft-auto-v-is-coming-9172013.html/#comments" target="_blank">unfortunately delayed</a>, and Grid 2 has <a href="http://www.gamesradar.com/grid-2-release-date-and-pre-order-packs-confirmed/" target="_blank">a release date</a>!</p>
<p>In not so great news, it seems as though Juction Point has <a href="http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-epic-mickey-disney-junction-point-20130129,0,1358302.story" target="_blank">closed its doors</a> and Gameloft <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/30/3931970/gameloft-shuts-down-india-based-studio-at-a-loss-of-200-jobs" target="_blank">shut down its India-based studio</a>. We wish them both the best.</p>
<p>Anyway, getting back to the whole we talk about stuff that matters thing, we chat about cheat codes being monetized in games, Valve getting <a href="http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/game/3423715/valve-sued-in-germany-over-game-ownership/" target="_blank">sued in Germany</a>, and Gabe did this awesome hour long <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8QEOBgLBQU" target="_blank">interview like thing</a>.</p>
<p>P.S. Defrag is having an event. Get with the times.</p>

<p>This week we&#8217;ve decided to something a little different.</p>
<p>Instead of highlighting the various things in the news; like <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2013/1/23/3908286/thq-dissolved-studios-sold-off-ceo-announces-in-letter-to-staff" target="_blank">THQ dissolving completely</a>, or where you might get a hold of the <a href="http://www.onlysp.com/2013/01/24/buy-god-of-war-ascension-get-the-last-of-us-demo/" target="_blank">Last Of Us demo</a>, we&#8217;re trying something a bit unorthodox.</p>
<p>The idea stemmed from a <a href="http://x-surface.tumblr.com/" target="_blank">hilarious and somewhat successful troll</a> about next gen Xbox info. As the grab for information from upcoming consoles has become a bit heated as of late, we sat down and simply speculated and audibly expressed our hopes and dreams for the future of console gaming.</p>
<p>Some of the issues we covered:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Controllers</strong>: No more dualshock? Handheld screens?</li>
<li><strong>Graphics</strong>: Where will they go next? 4k? AR? VR?</li>
<li><strong>Games/Backwards compatibility</strong>: Will it be offered? Hardware or software based? Exclusives?</li>
</ul>
<p>While some were predictable, we came up with what we thought were some pretty interesting conclusions in regards to these issues.<br />
So give it a listen <a href="http://defrag.depaul.edu/podcast">here</a> or up there, and let us know what you think.</p>
<p><em>Also we wanted to quickly extend our congratulations to all participants of the Global Game Jam for their hard work and time. <strong>Good work guys!</strong></em></p>
